A-TEC Industries AG’s Division Minerals & Metals operates through Montanwerke Brixlegg, Brixlegg, Austria and Gindre Duchavany, Lyon, France. Montanwerke Brixlegg is Austria’s only copper producer, with a tradition stretching back more than 500 years. Today it is one of Europe’s leading smelters. The BRX brand, registered on the London Metal Exchange, is known throughout the world, and is synonymous with high quality processes and products. The company operates a copper smelter in Brixlegg, which is ideally located to serve manufacturers of semi-finished products in neighbouring southern Germany and northern Italy, and a subsidiary, Kovohuty a.s., in Krompachy, eastern Slovakia. Gindre Duchavany S.A. — part of the Division Minerals & Metals since June 2007 — is a leading European producer of semi-finished copper products, and electrical parts and components. The latter are an ideal match for the Division’s product portfolio.
The Division’s unique combination of tradition and innovation makes it one of Europe’s top secondary smelters. The Division’s core business is recycling highly pure copper and other valuable metals from copper scrap for use in by a wide range of industries including electricals, construction, machine tools, plant engineering, plating and agriculture, as well as the high-tech sector. Annual output of highly pure copper is about 100,000 tonnes.
The Division Minerals & Metals has a total workforce of around 1,000. Continuous staff development opportunities maintain high levels of expertise, underpinning the success of the Division, which marked up a revenue of EUR 1,026 million in 2010.
