The Drive Technologies Division, headed by ATB Austria Antriebstechnik (ATB), is a leading global manufacturer of electric drive systems for industrial and applications and appliances. A-TEC Industries AG holds 98 % of Vienna-listed ATB Group and the remaining 2% is in free float.
ATB’s rapid expansion of recent years reached its peak in the first half of 2006 with the acquisition of a majority interest in the Lindeteves-Jacoberg (LJ) Group. This major acquisition added the renowned Schorch, Brook Crompton, Tamel and Western Electric brands to the group’s portfolio at a blow. With a comprehensive product range including both mass produced industrial motors and custom special motors, ATB is a full line supplier that is well equipped to face up to international competition. Its bespoke solutions for industrial customers have carved out strong positions in lucrative niche markets. ATB Group develops and produces large batches of industrial drive systems. ATB Group is a also an acknowledged specialist in custom large motors, which are chiefly used at power stations. Other niches occupied by the Austrian based electric motor group are pressurised explosion-proof AC motors and firedamp proof motors for use wherever maximum safety and reliability are required. Examples are the chemical, petrochemical and mining industries. A separate centre of technological excellence ensures that ATB Group is in a position to consolidate and continue to extend its competitive advantage in the future.
ATB Group companies operate in two business units: Project Motors and Industrial Motors.
In 2009 the ATB Group generated a preliminary revenue of EUR 307 million, and had a head count of some 4,179.
